NJ MVC helpNewark, NJ

Getting your NJ driver's license?
We go in your place.

The hard part isn't the driving test — it's the paperwork. We check your 6 Points of ID before you go, translate the documents that aren't in English, fill out the MVC forms with you, and show up at the counter so nothing gets sent back.

6 Points of ID

  1. Primary IDForeign passport, green card, EAD or visa
  2. Secondary IDBirth or marriage certificate, bank statement, school record
  3. Proof of NJ addressLease, utility bill, bank or insurance statement
  4. Social Security numberDon't have one? Not a blocker — there's an affidavit for that, and we prepare it for you

Anything not in English needs a certified translation.

We do that too

Point values differ by document. Send us your list and we'll confirm your combination reaches 6 before you go.

Step zero

If a document isn't in English, the MVC can't read it.

Brazilian birth certificates, marriage certificates, foreign driver's licenses, school records, bank letters — anything issued in Portuguese or any other language has to be presented with a certified English translation. It's the single most common reason people get turned away and have to come back another day.

We prepare the translation and the MVC visit together, so your file is complete the first time.

What we do at the MVC

If it happens at the MVC counter, we already know how it works.

Like a despachante back home: we read the requirements, prepare the file, and go in for you whenever your presence isn't legally required.

  • Driver's license & permit

Document check, application forms, knowledge-test scheduling and road-test appointments — first license or transferring a foreign one.

  • Non-driver State ID & REAL ID

For clients who don't drive, or who need the REAL ID star for domestic flights and federal buildings.

  • Title transfers

Signing the title correctly, odometer and lien sections, duplicate titles, and out-of-state titles brought into New Jersey.

  • Registration & plates

New registrations, renewals, plate transfers and replacements — with the insurance and inspection requirements checked up front.

  • Renewals, address & name changes

Updating your license or registration after a move or a marriage, plus replacements for lost documents.

  • We go in your place

Appointment scheduling, forms, fees and the trip to the agency. You keep your work day; we handle the line.

Buying or selling privately

Selling or buying a car? Do the title right.

A private sale is where most title problems start — a line signed in the wrong box, a missing odometer reading, no written agreement. We sit down with buyer and seller, complete the title assignment, and write a clear bill of sale so the transfer goes through and neither side is left holding someone else's tickets.

  • Title assignment filled out correctly — seller and buyer sections, sale price, odometer, lien release.

  • A written bill of sale — vehicle, price, date, as-is terms and both signatures, in English and Portuguese if you want it.

  • The transfer finished at the MVC — registration, plates and sales tax handled so the car is legally in the buyer's name.

Common questions

About the NJ MVC and your documents.

Does the MVC accept a translation I did myself?

No. Foreign-language documents need a certified translation prepared by a third party, with a signed certification of accuracy attached. We prepare it that way as standard.

What if I don't have a Social Security number?

There are documented alternatives, including a letter of ineligibility from the Social Security Administration. Bring us your situation and we'll map out what the MVC will accept.

How long does a certified translation take?

Standard turnaround is 24–48 hours, with rush service when your appointment is sooner. Full details on our certified translation page.

Can I use my Brazilian driver's license in New Jersey?

Only for a short period as a visitor, and it should be carried with a translation. If you live here, New Jersey expects you to hold a NJ license — we'll tell you which path applies to your status.

Can you go to the MVC without me?

For many transactions — title work, registrations, renewals — yes, with the proper authorization. Licenses and IDs require you in person for the photo and signature, so we go with you instead.

I'm buying a car from a private seller. What do I bring?

The signed title, a bill of sale, your ID and proof of NJ insurance. Come in together with the seller and we'll complete the title assignment and the sale agreement on the spot.

Bring us your documents. We'll tell you exactly what's missing.

Send a photo of what you have on WhatsApp, or stop by the store in Newark. No charge to find out where you stand.
